Day 51!! February 20, 2008 *shapes*

*This is the original shot- with same pping, but uncropped.

Shapes-
This is last one of the series of flowers. I had so much fun playing with these~ macros are fun! I am enjoying myself, but would also love some feedback about where/how to improve. HHCC pleaseee.

This is from K's bouquet. They are the richest, deepest purple-red. There is probably a name for the color, but I don't know what it would be.
These flowers are bringing such joy in the midst of a dissmal winter. It's cool, not freezing. It's rainy, not snowing. Even DH remarked this am, "We need a good snowstorm...one that snows us in!" Of course, his reasons for wanting to be snowed in are a bit more... adult. Not that I mind at all.

*ahem* I digress.
Okay, here are the particulars: manual, w/monopod; 1/20, 5.6, 640 ISO. 100mm macro, 5D.
Processing:ACR: exposure +.25, increased contrast from +25 to +35, luminance smoothing :39, Color noise reduction: 65; custom curves. Icropped in a little more in pping, ran a defog and screen light layer at low opacity.

TFL, and thanks for putting up with the early post yesterday. The kids really, really wanted me to watch the movie with them!

that is gorgeous!!

Ok, because you asked for HHCC...this crop is not my favorite. I think maybe a bit more of the petal on the bottom or more of the center. Hmmm, can't decide. I'm on a laptop so can't truly comment on the color, but it looks good regardless;)

the color looks good from my end.

Nice, Sara--you captured that color well. That's a tough one to get. I LOVE that flower; do you have a crop showing more of the center, or a little more beyond the bottom edge of the petal?

The focus and bokeh are beautiful, especially the first one! I really needed to click on these for a larger view to see how pretty they are.

I love your 2nd shot. I think the way you cropped it really helped to focus attention on the parts that have the most clarity in your picture. The more I look at this photo, the more I like it, and for some reason, it's much more appealing to me than the 1st photo. i really like that you posted your settings. Thanks to Debbi, I shot in Raw today for the 1st time, and when I pulled up the photo, noticed types of settings your mention here. (But then I closed it without doing anything with it, feeling rather lost!) I hope you keep posting your settings like this, because i'd really like to study them and learn from it!

These are so beautiful. I just love the second one...I feel you can see so much more detail and color in that one.

These are stunning! What an awesome color for a flower! I agree, I love the 2nd one more because it does show more detail, plus it's just an interesting crop and that appeals to me!

I wanted to thank you for your cc on my blog today too, I totally agree with you on the crop! Those were sooc crops and I had gone out for the evening so I didn't have the time to really put any thought into the cropping, I just thought that flare was so cool and unexpected I wanted to hurry up & share! I will definitely crop them for printing though... my mom and grandma want prints! So thank you for helping me "see the composition within!"

very pretty flower! I'm not 100% loving the crop, but that's because I want to see the bottom tips of the petals. It's still a great shot though! Love the color!

You're right... I did leave the vignetting off on the newer version, but only for the sake of time. I was in a bit of a rush. I do still have it written into the action though! :) Thanks for noticing!

They're both really pretty, but I love the second one that you cropped! Macros are my favorite and I like to get in close, for me it makes the composition a bit more interesting. I might have tried to show the tips of the flower petals on the second one, but even without, it is beautiful! Your focus is fabulous. What type of flower is this?

On your original crop...

I'm not a macro guru by anymeans, but I found myself wanting the whole flower in the pic. If you crop most of it in the shot, it's almost like I feel I'm missing something if that whole flower is not all the way in. Now, if you crop so there's just a part of the flower that's different. I so hope I am making sense??
